Parent Coaching Through Legal Situations
Support for Court-Mandated Parenting, CFI and/or PRE Recommendations, and High-Conflict Family Situations
Let's TalkGuidance for Parents Navigating and Co-Parenting and Legal Challenges
Co-parenting and court-involved parenting situations can be incredibly stressful. Trying to parent while separated often brings intense pressure, complicated family dynamics, and very little guidance about what the next step actually looks like.
Many parents arrive here feeling stressed, judged, or worried about getting it wrong. Some feel angry. Others feel exhausted or discouraged. Most simply want to do the right thing for their children but are not sure how to move forward in the middle of conflict and court involvement.
If you've recently been given a court mandate, a recommendation from a Child and Family Investigator (CFI) or Parental Responsibility Evaluator (PRE), or guidance from legal counsel to work with someone like me, you may feel like you're the only one in the world to be in this tricky spot (or you may not have even realized that people like me exist!). Fear not! I support parents with legal requirements all the time and am familiar with the needs these situations bring. I've got you!
I provide parent coaching for parents navigating co-parenting and legal proceedings, including court-ordered parent coaching and recommended parenting support.
My role is to help you develop the skills, stability, and parenting leadership that courts are looking for and that kids need to have a happier and healthier environment.
Yes, I need help! What Does Parent Coaching Around Co-Parenting Look Like?
Â
Co-parenting can be challenging, especially after separation or divorce. Even parents who both care deeply about their children can find themselves stuck in patterns of conflict, miscommunication, or frustration.
Parent coaching provides a structured space to work through those challenges and develop healthier ways of interacting as co-parents.
Coaching may focus on things like:
- Reducing conflict and improving communication between co-parents
- Creating consistency and stability for children between households
- Managing strong emotions during difficult interactions
- Setting clear boundaries while still supporting the child’s relationship with both parents
- Making decisions that prioritize the child’s needs and long-term wellbeing
You don’t have to navigate this perfectly.
Coaching is designed to help you build the tools and confidence to move through co-parenting challenges with more clarity, steadiness, and intention, so your child can experience greater consistency and support across both homes.
What Does Parent Coaching Through a Legal Process Look Like?
In some custody cases or divorce proceedings, a judge, Child and Family Investigator (CFI), or Parental Responsibility Evaluator (PRE)Â may require, recommend, or mandate parent coaching.
This can happen when:
- A court orders parent coaching as part of a parenting plan
- A CFI recommends coaching to improve parenting skills or communication
- A PRE recommends coaching as part of their evaluation process
- Attorneys suggest coaching to strengthen a parent’s position in court
- A parent is working to regain or expand parenting time
In these situations, coaching is not about punishment or judgment.
It’s about helping you show up in a way that reflects stability, consistency, and a child-centered approach, both for your children and within the legal process.
Coaching focuses on developing the skills that children need and that courts are often looking for, including emotional regulation, healthy boundaries, effective communication, and child-centered decision making.Â
How Parent Coaching Supports Legal Requirements
Â
When coaching is connected to legal proceedings, the process is more structured than traditional coaching.
Together we focus on:
- Strengthening authoritative parenting skills
- Improving co-parenting communication
- Managing conflict in high-stress parenting situations
- Learning tools from Love and Logic® parenting principles
- Building emotional regulation and decision-making under pressure
- Creating stability and consistency for your child
Coaching may include review of relevant documents (court orders, CFI reports, investigations) and/or documentation or progress summaries, if needed, to support legal processes.
My goal is to help you demonstrate meaningful growth, not just check a box.Â
Â
Let's TalkAdditional Services
Â
In some court-ordered or court-mandated parenting situations, additional documentation or communication may be required.
When appropriate, the following services may also be available:
- Testimony related to parenting coaching work
- Communication with attorneys or legal representatives
- Communication with therapists or other involved professionals
- Additional documentation related to parenting progress or coaching participation
These services are typically arranged separately from regular coaching sessions and may involve additional fees depending on the scope of the request.
The goal of all documentation or collaboration with legal or therapeutic professionals is to support healthy parenting and the wellbeing of the child.
Who This Is For
Â
This work is designed for parents who are:
- Navigating high-conflict parenting situations during separation or divorce
- Working with a Child and Family Investigator (CFI) or following CFI recommendations
- Participating in a Parental Responsibility Evaluation (PRE) and needing support during the evaluation process
- Completing court-ordered or court-mandated parenting coaching
- Addressing parenting concerns raised during legal parenting situations or court proceedings
- Seeking support to improve communication and reduce conflict in high-conflict co-parenting dynamics
Many parents enter this process feeling judged, defensive, or unsure how to move forward.
Legal processes can be overwhelming, especially when you’re already navigating the emotional challenges of parenting during conflict.
My role is to help you build the stability, clarity, and leadership your child needs and that courts are looking for when they make decisions about families.
While there may be legal requirements that need to be followed, the deeper goal of this work is always the same:
Helping children grow up in an environment that is stable, safe, and emotionally healthy.
Courts often recommend or require parenting coaching because the skills we focus on here — emotional regulation, healthy boundaries, communication, and leadership — directly support children’s wellbeing and long-term development.
This process is not about proving you’re a perfect parent.
It’s about strengthening the parenting skills that help children thrive even during difficult family transitions.

Let's Meet!
About Me. Ann Kaplan.
I’ve spent more than a decade working with parents who want to create real change in their families — not just temporary behavior fixes.
I’m also a mom of four, which means I understand parenting from both sides: the theory and the reality. I’ve lived the chaos, the repair conversations, the power struggles, and the moments where you wonder if you’re doing any of this right.
That lived experience is part of what shapes my work.
I’ve been working with parents for over a decade and am a certified Love and Logic® independent facilitator trained in authoritative parenting approaches.
My coaching integrates practical parenting tools with deeper work around emotional regulation, communication, and leadership inside the family system.
I work with everyday parents navigating common family challenges, as well as those facing more complex situations such as:
• Court-mandated parenting support
• High-conflict co-parenting dynamics
• Legal family systems and custody proceedings
• CFI or PRE recommendations and court-involved parenting plans
In these situations, the goal is not just to satisfy a requirement — it’s to help parents build the skills and stability that courts are looking for while creating a healthier environment for their children.
Clients often describe my coaching style as:
Direct.
Grounded.
Compassionate.
Focused on real change.
I won’t shame you, and I won’t sugarcoat things either.
My role is to help you strengthen your parenting leadership, navigate difficult dynamics, and move forward with clarity — especially in situations that feel overwhelming or high-stakes.
