We're Off Course Most of the Time - Did you know that rockets and ships are off course more than 97% of the time?
True story!
They arrive at their destination by constantly course-correcting. It would never work for a pilot or captain to set the steering wheel of their vessel once at the beginning of the journey and go play cards for the rest of the trip!
Don't you think parenting works the same?
In my opinion, approximately 97% of parenting involves course correction. We're always towing the line between too much meddling and too much freedom, are we too hands-off, or too enmeshed? Too emotional, or too disinterested? It's an impossible quagmire!
But just like a mariner has a compass, or an astronaut has a...fancy contraption with a complicated scientific name...we have a great tool to help us get back on course when we've gone astray - our kids!
The Line We Tow
One reason why attunement is fully half of good parenting (see my stuff on authoritative parenting for more info on that) is because it does two really important things: it keeps us from being assholes to our kids and traumatizing them, AND it lets us fine-tune our parenting to the feedback they're constantly giving us. The truth is that the line we tow in parenting is different for each kid! What's overbearing for one kid is...underbearing for another. So we need our kids to inform our parenting and help us steer this ship into port!
Attunement can be Challenging
Attunement can be challenging to cultivate in ourselves because it requires us to do our own personal growth work. The more we do, the more we release the crap that makes it hard to truly see and respond appropriately to our kids. This is a huge part of my job. Yes, of course, you are going to get parenting tools and skills out the wazoo when we work together, AND we are going to calibrate your attunement skills until they are a fine-tuned navigation instrument that leads straight to a healthy dynamic with your kid and incredible behavior in your family.

By the way, I looked it up and here are all the fancy contraptions with complicated scientific names astronauts use: gyroscopes, accelerometers, optical sensors, algorithms (no surprise there), sextants, optical telescopes, thrusters, and accuators. Makes parenting a kid seem easy!
