When Your Best Isn't Good Enough
“I’m doing my best, but obviously my best isn’t good enough.”
A client shared this with me recently, and she certainly isn’t the first. Everybody feels this way at some point. We’re trying so hard, applying everything we know, but nothing is improving. We’re stuck, or our kid is stuck, our marriage is stuck, basically everything sucks, and life is a dumpster fire. So what was my response when my client told me her best wasn’t good enough?
“Correct. And why is that a problem?”
Often, when we say our best isn’t good enough, it comes with a huge dose of shame. We're really saying: "I’m garbage—a hopeless failure."
But what if we address the shame and help it relax away? Then, this expression really just means: the best I’m capable of right now is not getting the job done. I need to deal with this differently, in ways I don’t yet know or have the ability to do.
Well sure! Life is a series of situations where our best isn’t good enough…yet.
That’s why folks come to people like me. It’s my job to help you change what your “best” is.
You are Capable of So Much More
You are capable of so much more, and it’s my job to help you learn new ways to respond to your child, engage with your partner, see your circumstances, and put out the fires in your life. And it’s my job to help you address the emotions (like shame) that get in the way of adopting your new “best”.
The people who hire me do so because they are ready to embrace the fact that their best isn’t good enough for the task at hand, without shame, and to engage with the opportunity that this truth presents to them. Is that you?
Don't Wait Another Second
If so, please don’t wait another second to set up your free Discovery Call with me so we can uncover what doing your best is, what it could be, and how to get there. You’ll get a chance to scope me and my practice out, decide if we’re a good fit, and begin a new chapter of growth and success, whatever that means to you.
